DHC responds to reported leak, revealing priorities of upcoming long-term plan refresh

Today, the HSJ has reported a leak revealing a number of changes to the NHS’ long-term plan.

Graham Kendall, director of the Digital Healthcare Council said:

“It is deeply worrying that the actions and milestones for digital transformation, set out in the previous NHS Long Term plan, have reportedly been replaced with vague and empty guidance.

“Digital is key to transforming health and social care and bringing about real change for patients, service users and staff, but we are currently only scratching the surface of its potential. If we are to avoid being overwhelmed by the current challenges facing health and social care, we must rediscover the vision and ambition of a thriving digital ecosystem that works for patients.

“The final version must contain a clear ambition and plan for how digital can support staff and patients. To leave this out would be like publishing a city map but forgetting to include the street names.”
