SoS says no to being fired out of cannon

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, set out more of his vision for the NHS in the Guardian this week.

In the piece, he launches the biggest staff engagement campaign ‘in history’ and a nation-wide public engagement exercise to understand better the challenges facing the NHS.

The Government’s goal is to turn the NHS into a Neighbourhood Health Service, powered by ‘cutting-edge’ technology to keep people health and out of hospital.

10-year plan

As part of the Government’s work towards a 10-year plan for the NHS and social care sectors, it has launched a new website.

It is seeking feedback from the public, staff and crucially for digital innovators, organisations.

DHC will canvas members before submitting to the consultation.

We encourage all our members and the wider digital health and sector to respond too.

You can find information about the consultation here.

And those of you who like to glance behind you as well as looking forward might appreciate this from the summer of 2000.

Two-way conversation?

Many commentators have already questioned whether the consultation will be a mere listening exercise or whether individuals and organisations will be allowed to engage in a genuine conversation about the future of health and care.

It’s a good point. And that’s why the conversations that the DHC organises for our members are so valuable. Like the one we have in the diary with Wes’s senior adviser next month.

Then there’s always the chance that online engagement turns into a bit of a laugh for some people.

Support to scale your business with the NHS

DHC is working on a guide to the NHS England DTAC process. We’ve heard from colleagues in digital health and care that NHS organisations are asking for DTAC compliance before starting any conversations about future work.

If you already work with the NHS, then it will help you keep on top of the process to ensure ongoing compliance. We will share it in the coming weeks.
