Innovating NHS Care With Digital Solutions

Part of the Digital Healthcare Council’s job is to shine a light on the great work of our members.

It’s a source of great pride for me that collectively, we provide services at every point in the patient pathway.

That’s something I’ll be talking about in an upcoming national newspaper article, and in a series of meetings planned with influential national print and broadcast journalists.

Real-time improvement with TeleTracking

Many NHS organisations continue to face pressure in their Emergency Departments, bed shortages and poor patient flow.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust is not alone in dealing with these challenges.

Last week, TeleTracking UK marked the first anniversary of their work with Medway.

What can we learn from this partnership?

–              50% reduction in patient wait time (from ED to a bed)

–              50 hours of additional nursing time released

–              Improved bed availability, reducing the time from a patient leaving a bed until it is available again from 150 minutes to 68 minutes

These statistics are hugely encouraging. They add up to improved operational visibility, improved access to care, and more efficient patient flow.

Better care, lower cost

Another brilliant example of the impact of TeleTracking’s work is their partnership with Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

–              £21.m costs avoided by freeing up an average of 15 beds daily

–              2,300 hours of ward staff time released each month – £620,000 saving per year

–              86% reduction in A&E bed allocation time

Playing our part

The DHC has been working with TeleTracking for a while now and we’re delighted to see the progress they’re making.

We have helped promote their work, supported them to have conversations with other innovators, NHS leaders and government officials.

Plaudits from Preventx

We asked Andy Burton, Chief Commercial Officer at Preventx, to share a few thoughts about working with us.

He said: “As well as hearing from other innovators in the digital healthcare sector and sharing lessons learned, the DHC has provided really valuable access to policy and decision-makers, to enable our businesses to reflect on their engagement and commercial strategies with the NHS and social care sector, and bodies like NHS England and the Department for Health and Social Care.”

What you might have missed… A silver bullet for weight loss?

Obesity relating illness costs the NHS around £11bn each year – roughly 8% of its total spend.

It’s understandable that the Government is keen to explore the potential impact of drugs like Mounjaro and Wegovy.

The BBC.reports concerns from the health system that GPs may not be able to manage the demand and that drug companies might not be able to manufacture enough.

So perhaps medication needs to be part of a whole patient approach, which includes digital health and care?
