Digital Healthcare Council responds to: ‘Delivery plan for recovering access to primary care’

Responding to NHS England and Department for Health and Social Care’s ‘Delivery Plan for Recovering Access to Primary Care’, Catherine Davies, director of Digital Healthcare Council said:

“We welcome the government’s plans to embed digital healthcare technologies within primary care. Every day huge numbers of people try to see their GP, and we must find new ways to increase access.

“DHC members are already making positive change, equipping GPs with the tools to meet the needs of patients. This includes making more same-day appointments available without adding to staff burden and resolving patient queries through the most efficient and effective routes. We hope this plan will lead to further integration of proven technologies across the UK.

“While today’s plan is a step in the right direction, we must not lose sight of our ambition. Digital healthcare tools can break down barriers between primary and secondary care, directing patients to the right service for them and reducing the burden on traditional ‘front door’ services like general practice.”
